The Association of Students for Human Rights is sponsoring a fundraiser on May 6, 2011 to benefit survivors of sexual violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where hundreds of thousands of women have been raped as a tool of war. All proceeds from this event will be donated to the Panzi Foundation, which directly funds the Panzi Hospital in Bukavu, DRC. The Panzi Hopsital provides treatment for gynecologic conditions, many resulting from sexual violence, and supports socio-economic reintegration, legal assistance, and psycho-social care for survivors of sexual violence.
Our benefit will take place at The Border at 2014 S. University Blvd. It officially begins at 6 pm, but we encourage people to come early and enjoy Happy Hour at 5 pm. The fundraiser will include guest speakers, including Professor Peter Van Arsdale, a short film, and live music. Following our event, the entertainment at The Border will continue, so stay as late as you like! The event is free, but we are asking attendees to consider making a $5-$10 donation.
Hope to see you there!
